Pilot Open Access monitoring launched

After a thorough preparation the UKB project group for national open access monitoring has now started the actual pilot in which publication data of Utrecht University (incl. UMCU), Leiden University (incl. LUMC), Radboud University and TU Delft are used to provide an integrated and improved monitor. This is based on the UNL-approved report Adviesrapport vernieuwing op access monitoring.

The wish for this national monitor comes from UNL. The goals of the UKB project is to make the current open access monitoring broader, deeper and more efficient. Broadening implies including books, book chapters and conference material in addition to journal articles. Deepening means distinguishing Diamond open access from other types of Gold open access, as well as detecting different (Creative Commons) licenses and the time between publication and OA availability (immediacy). Efficiency gains are expected in combined analysis of all data with an automated workflow. Metadata from institutional CRIS systems will be combined, deduplicated, enriched and analysed. The detailed results will also be provided to back to the institutions.

This pilot is part of the first phase of the project that focuses on journal articles. An efficient, open and transferable workflow will be developed in order to fulfill the project goals. In a next phase the project group will work on the other publication types mentioned.
