Christian Bröer of the department of sociology (FMG), Balázs Bodó of the Institute for Information Law (FdR) and Saskia Woutersen-Windhouwer of the Library, jointly received a Horizon2020 Grant for the project OpenUP. OpenUP stands for “OPENing UP new innovative methods, indicators and tools for peer review, dissemination of research results, and impact measurement.” The project is a two-year project and has started on 1 June 2016.
OpenUP will work with nine partners from seven different countries. The total budget is 2 million euros of which 200,000 euros for the UvA.
One of the pilot studies in this project will be led by Christian Bröer and is called ‘Transferring the research lifecycle to the web’. This pilot study will develop an online tool for citizen science in which citizens can collaboratively set up a research project. It is particularly suited for qualitative research and builds on a tool for online collaborative data sharing and analysis built at the University of Amsterdam.
Balász Bodó will be leading the pilot ‘Piratical demand as one form of impact indicator/Piratical distribution as an alternative form of reaching unexpected audiences’.
Saskia Woutersen-Windhouwer is project leader and central contact person of OpenUP and will work on open peer review, open impact indicators, policy analysis, recommendations and guidelines. With this project the UvA will be at the forefront of the international developments in scientific publishing and have knowledge of the targets of the EC. With that the library will be able to set up better services for scientists, student and teachers.
